Quickwit is a fully distributed company with a remote-first setup and one office in Paris. We hire everywhere to attract talent and build a great team. Most positions can be held from any location. Some might require to be located in specific countries due to travel restrictions or timezone challenges.
Compensations and contracts in an international setup are tricky as the taxation, regulation, holidays, and cost of living differ greatly between countries.
We are a young company, and it’s very hard to have policies depending on countries and keep them up-to-date. This is why we decided to have a global compensation scheme applied globally.
You can freely choose between being a contract and an employee; both will get similar compensation. It’s up to you.
We want our contractors and employees to have a good work/life balance. A contractor or employee will have 228 worked days per year. This gives you around 32 days of holidays per year.
Compensation follows one main guideline: working at Quickwit should cost the same amount of money to the company, regardless of location or if you are a contractor or employee. We know this can be a bit unfair for some locations, but we want to keep things simple and tractable as we are a young company. Naturally, this makes hiring harder in North America. That’s ok.
To match this guideline, we use the total cost of an employee/contractor for Quickwit as a starting point, which ranges from $60k to $140k.
The contractor's compensation range is $60k - $140k as contractors support themselves for taxes and benefits.
Depending on the country, Quickwit pays different taxes, benefits like health insurance ($12k in the US), and an Employee Of Record service if your location is not in the US (we use Remote.com, which costs ~ $7200 / year). Your gross salary is deducted by removing those costs from the total cost. This leads to the following ranges by country:

We only propose Employee Of Record service in countries where Remote.com is present. We will add new countries to the table with the supported countries when necessary.
We propose stock options to employees and contractors up to 0.5% (pre-seed). Stock grants vest over 5 years with a 1-year cliff. You can access your vesting schedule on Carta.com.
